What is gum contouring?
A procedure to reshape and rebalance the gum line, bringing symmetry and harmony to the way your gums frame your teeth.
When the gum height is uneven, or the gums cover so much of the teeth that they look short, careful reshaping can restore a more balanced, proportionate smile. Your suitability and the right approach are assessed and confirmed at your consultation.

Uneven gum height
The gum line sits at different heights across your teeth, giving the smile an asymmetric look.
A gummy smile
The gums cover more of the teeth than you'd like, making them appear short when you smile.
Receding gums
The gums have pulled back, exposing more of the tooth or its root than before.
Aftercare
Caring for the treated area.
- For two weeks after the procedure, avoid smoking and alcohol.
- Don't touch or stimulate the treated area with your tongue or hands, and avoid pulling on your lips.
- Rather than brushing the area directly, keep it clean using the mouthwash we recommend.
Gum whitening
A fresher, more even gum tone.
Healthy gums are usually a soft pink. A darker, red-brown tone can come from pigment (melanin) in the gum tissue. Gum whitening can improve the appearance of the gums for a fresher, more even look alongside your smile.
Is it permanent?
Gum whitening is best thought of as semi-permanent. With a touch-up session roughly every six months, the result can be maintained well. Occasionally a little pigment returns, causing minor discolouration, but this is uncommon.
Aftercare
- Avoid staining drinks such as coffee and cola — if you do have them, rinse with water straight away.
- Keep up regular scaling and maintenance to help protect the result.
